| - Once again, Yelp has led me astray on this one. Were it not for the photos, I'd almost think I had been at a different nursery than the other reviewers.
I stopped at this place while perusing a few other nurseries in the Cave Creek area and I can honestly say that this was the biggest let down for me. Selection of agave in general was not what I had hoped, but the worst thing was that the few plants they did have, including a nice specimen sized A. zebra, appear to have been afflicted with the dreaded agave mite. Not only that, but it was apparently untreated, because it was clearly spreading through their stock.
I found a couple of more or less ruined A. 'Royal Spine', as well as what looked to have, at one point, resembled A. ocahui. Others I saw here were A. parryi ssp. neomexicana, A. parryi v. parryi, A. 'Shark Skin', A. victoriae-reginae, A. potatorum and even a couple of A. applanata 'Cream Spike' tucked away in one of the shade houses, mislabeled as A. parryi though.
Employees seemed somewhat disengaged here, or maybe just wanting to end their day. Definitely didn't feel warmly greeted nor was their the impression that they gave it any thought when we left empty handed after scoping the place out. I got a wave on the drive out, but that was about it.
This place is definitely geared towards trees and shrubs, and selection in the regard is expansive, so if that's your angle then you should still give them a look. However, if you're after agave, I would stay away. Definitely some issues going on here as far as mites are concerned, please refer to the uploaded photos and judge for yourself. I will not be going back.
