| - Being a Vegas local who is English, I am very sceptical about the Irish and British pubs around town. Many rave that they have the best fish and chips in town or the best curry on their menu and all of them fail miserably at delivering to the high standards they hype the restaurants up to by serving frozen chips. That is, all of them but Gordon Ramsay's Pub.
We started off our late lunch with the Lobster and Shrimp Rolls. Holy cow! These were the dog's bollocks! (For you Americans, that means they were BOMB!) Light and refreshing Maine lobster and shrimp served on a toasted roll. My friend and I both agreed we would be happy with just that every time we came. Then came the Sliders which were perfectly cooked and a decent size.
Here's where we got a little greedy... Well, I got a little greedy. Back home I would always opt for either the fish and chips or the chicken curry and chips. Today, I opted for both... And shared reluctantly with my friend. Bloody hell, GR Pub know how to portion your food to feed you for a week. Let's start with the curry... The Butter Chicken Curry was served with basmati rice and a naan bread. The chicken was so tender it fell apart and melted in your mouth. Chef Otto Spohn came out to check on us and was saying they marinate the breast for a day in the curry base. This set the curry apart from other attempts to serve Indian in a pub in Las Vegas by miles. Normally I would do half and half (chips and rice) with my curry in England so I was looking forward to soaking my chips in the curry sauce.
Now onto the fish and chips. This is where I am most critical. There's nothing like proper fish and chips from the chip shop or pub back home. I never order them in America because I'm always disappointed. Freshly cooked, they came out steaming hot with tartare sauce and mushy peas (a British staple side for fish and chips). The chips were not cut like a typical chip shop chip. They were miles better than the frozen chips or French fries every other venue serves up in America, but they just weren't what I was hoping for. They were bloody good, mind. Just not what I expected from a British guy's pub. The fish on the other hand was PERFECTION! Light, crispy, and huge pieces. I ended up with enough for lunch the next day as well. LOVED the recipe.
We were celebrating my birthday and we were sent out two of the four desserts. The chocolate trifle which I had forgotten how much I loved back home. It was refreshing and delicious. The masterpiece however, was the good old fashioned Sticky Toffee Pudding. Oh. My. God. I was in heaven!!!! This was THE best sticky toffee pudding I've ever had... Trust me, I've had a lot of them.
The whole experience from start to end was bloody marvellous. Our waitress, Yanesy was bubbly, funny, and very attentive. I will be requesting her every time I'm back. The decor has a very posh British flair with fancy upholstery and excellent uses of the Union Jack, British landmarks, and of course the signature newspaper print typically associated with fish and chips. I can't wait to go back.
