While on our quest for the city's best traditional margherita pizza we stopped here to try it out what they had to offer.
The first thing I like about this place is the fresh herb garden outside when you walk up. The smell of fresh basil is intoxicating as you put your name in for a table. This got us very excited!
We had very quick service! I ordered the arancine as our appetizer the saffron risotto was heavenly. So we were excited to get our margherita pizza...
When it came we were disappointed...now I know that ever restaurant has their own take on margherita pizza, but if you are going to claim you have the some of the best pizza in town then I think your margherita pizza should be pretty dang close to the traditional Italian neapolitan pizza style margherita pizza. BUT it wasn't, it was actually quite gross.
The crust was WAY to floury and there was no sauce, NONE just ice cold tomato slices stuck on the pizza with the cheese not even melted all the way. The basil just thrown on there.
We had to choke it down and the server even asked us why we didn't finish it as if he was surprised we didn't like it. We tried to explain to him the type of margherita pizza we like and how it should be done and he looked at us like we were crazy. Obviously, he isn't much of a foodie. But we didn't want to be rude and we didn't send it back, we just quietly ate and quickly asked for our bill.
It surprises me that other reviews claim the margherita is good here. They obviously like a salad thrown on a warm pizza crust or have never had true neapolitan style margherita pizza....
However, a couple weeks later we discovered Pomo in Scottsdale and that my friends is the best margherita pizza in the Phoenix area. They do neapolitan the right way...
I doubt we ever go back to The Parlor. We are not fans of meaty type pizzas, if we were I am sure we would like this place as that is the type of pizzas every table around us ordered. So maybe that is how they got a good name is for those type of pizzas.
