| - I went to Century Room for bottle service with a group of folks, on a Tuesday night. Don't get there before 11:30pm if you're going on a Tuesday. The night gets started late there, and it's pretty much a meat-market filled with highly insecure men in suits (as though they didn't have time to change between work and 11pm). If you get there early, you get preyed on, early, and it takes a couple drinks to have the patience (or apathy) to listen to a guy dressed like he just came from Bay St., telling you all about his amazing retail job at the Nike Store. Aside from that, it's an older crowd, young professionals mostly, which is a nice change from the club district.
I liked the decor. They had floor lamps suspended upside down from their bases from the ceiling, with old fashioned eclectic lamp shades and coloured lights. The seating was all for bottle service, but the booths were comfortable. It would have been nice to have them a little raised or more protected from the dance floor and other patrons. But I quite liked the bar set up, and the mirrors and wall art.
The DJ wasn't great, and they had a percussion player set up beside him drumming along to all the songs on bongos, which just threw everything off in my opinion. Although, I suppose it didn't matter because most of the people weren't dancing. I mean, it's billed as a lounge I guess, but it just felt like an awkward school dance where everyone is watching and waiting along the walls for someone else to start the party.
We ordered a Magnum of Belvedere Vodka, with various mixers (barlime, redbull, cran, water, soda), and a round of Jager-bombs for the table (Jager was not my idea). The night cost us $750, with the tip for the bottle girl (which they include). Our host was not impressed with the auto-grat. I don't know how standard that sort of thing is with bottle service, but it just doesn't seem worth it for someone to bring a bottle to your table, serve the first round, and then disappear for the rest of the night. And the first round that she DID serve, she didn't do properly. She served me a vodka-soda with a lime wedge. Traditionally, it should have been a lemon. And the drinks were served in plastic glassware (the kind you see at sketchy punk bars, etc). For $750, in a lounge they market as classy, we should have had real glassware.
