When I first moved to Ohio a friend brought me to the Avon Heinen's as a "must know" location. I'm not sure why I never went back. 4 years later when I was radically experimenting w new foods and recipes, I strolled in w my reusable bags prepared to browse, acquaint myself w their offerings, and shop. I found the patrons to be HORRIBLE! Rude and nasty. The staff was just slightly better. I did about $100 in shopping. That will be the only time I ever shop at Heinen's.
It saddens me to write this review. Heinen's has a wonderful history in Ohio as a grocer. There is a new book about grocery stores which features Heinen's and was recently on NPR. As I heard this on the radio, I wished I had had a positive experience and be could be "part" of this tradition, but no can do. Whether intentional or not, Heinen's is an unwelcoming elitist supermarket.
