First time here tonight for a Wednesday cinema series event being held in the Museum lecture hall with invites through our stellar community manager, Stacey L. Thanks! Thanks also to the Museum and all the generous donors who are making the series possible in this wonderful venue!
On screen tonight, "Kaili Blues," a 2015 film by a 26-year old Chinese director. His first film.
Artsy, poetic, subtle and dreamlike with subtitles. I can't make much sense of it. And that's not to say it was an uninteresting film. But I think the challenge of understanding it is part of its message. I don't know.
But I do know the museum is beautiful, the lecture hall is spacious, well lit, easily accessible and very nice. Sound is really good and so was the lighting. Definitely worth a visit.
These days, I like my action fast and gripping. Still, I think I will be coming back on a few subsequent Wednesdays to try and raise my generally middle-brow cinematic predilections.
