| - This is my new favourite work station café! Why? Let me explain:
*free book loan/exchange* - I actually had a bit of a magic synchronicity happen with this bookshelf at the back of the café. My first time in to Torrefiction, I didn't know about their book exchange, but noticed a bookshelf full of books next to my table. I took a moment to scan the titles and *BAM*, there was a book that I've been wanting to read for a number of months now, which is really pertinent to my research. There it was, waiting for me. I spent the next four hours reading. When it was time to leave, I put the book back on the shelf reluctantly. The woman at the counter told me that I could feel free to take the book with me, and bring another one to replace it the next time I came in! I was thrilled. It's now a cherished book in my collection. I just brought another book back today to replace it.
*staff* - You know, I truly believe that a good owner/manager sets the standard for good staff. I think the owner of this place must be an awesome person, because all of the staff are super friendly, helpful, cheerful... really good vibes. I always feel welcome to be here, and to stay as long as I want.
*menu* - This place has a full lunch menu, with a great selection of sandwiches, paninis, delicious salads (pasta, bean, greens, you name it), soups, chips and snacks, plus all the usual café sweets. Really, you could spend a lot of time here without going hungry. The salads are really good and just now I'm chomping on an apple/cheddar/cranberry panini with my Americano. Nom.
*atmosphere* - it's cool, calm, and collected. You have the cozy bustle of the staff doing their thing, in addition to a number of quiet, focused patrons working away at laptops. It's never too crowded, but never eerily quiet either. Also - always really good music playing, including some of my favourites like Austra.
I really can't complain about anything here. There's some construction happening on the building out front right now, making it tricky to get in the front door, but once you're in, you'd never know there are renos happening.
Oh, also - art on the walls (like, really good framed photographs) and some mounted vintage movie posters for sale. I'm dying for that Frankenstein movie poster, but alas: $50.
I highly recommend coming to check this place out when you have no fixed agenda, want a decent lunch and to spend some time chilling with a book or laptop (or both).
OH, PS - Free wifi, which won't let you down.
PPS - Tons of outlets with multi-plug adapters so that nobody goes without an open outlet to charge their laptop.
Why only four stars? Quite noisy at lunch hour.
