| - My wife and I came to La Gourmandine this morning after years of saying we'd go on a weekend morning. Yes, there was a long line.
I've had excellent things from them, including an outstanding cake for my birthday earlier this year that my dad picked up for us.
Today, we tried a wide variety of treats, from pain au chocolat, an abricotine, an feuilleté aux pommes and 2-3 other pastries that looked good. Considering the excellent reputation, we thought they were just "okay."
Personally, I thought the pain au chocolat tasted like it was made last night. It was good, but Five Points has a much better version - simply because it always seems to taste fresh. Same for the abricotine - tasy, but not outstanding.
While La Gourmandine has a wonderful variety, good service, and I'll probably give it another shot, I'd say I give better marks to Five Points for the croissants and pain au chocolate.
Hopefully, we just visited on an off day.
