| - Read about this place once in a magazine and added it to my list of restaurants to try. Well, today was that day, lucky for me.
It is dark, narrow and noisy. That is neither good nor bad, just my observation.
Staff is young and friendly, tho not what I would call professional. Typical college attitude. Again, neither good nor bad, just a fact.
Menu is amazing. I love pasties and couldn't decide which to order. There are also 4 soups and each one sounded better than the next. The bread is homemade and to die for, served warm with a soft inside and crispy crust, as it should be. There are 4 or 5 homemade potato dishes that I will attempt next time as well. None of the frozen or instant variety here. Can't wait to try the mushy peas. Last time I had those were the real deal in London, but I am confident these will compare, if not exceed.
Service is fairly slow, but everything is being made as you order, so good quality, fresh food takes time.
Everything and I mean everything is made from scratch. Very impressive considering the narrow, tight small kitchen, which is open by the way for all to see. I have no idea how they work in there, but they do and they do it well.
Prices are great too. $6-$8 a pasty and should be enough for most appetites. $2.95 a cup of soup with bread and butter.
I will definitely be back until I taste every pasty on the menu.
