  • For once, I chose to sit at the sushi bar rather than a table, since it seemed like the main highlight of the restaurant was to sit at the bar (bar took up most of the space). Skeptic to sit at the bar due to my unpleasant, first experience at Hikari, I was surprised to find that there are sushi chefs out there at AYCE places that attentively listen, can figure when you're ready to order again, and make the orders at a quick pace. Thumbs up to the sushi chefs. Their cuts were clean, thick, and perhaps even overpowering compared to the rice. Sushi Mon's menu is actually quite large in comparison to other AYCE places, specifically their specials menu. I was pleasantly surprised to find Takoyaki on the Appetizers section; that's something you don't usually see nowadays. They also had AYCE Salmon Belly which got me screaming inside with pure joy! Bless! You can also customize your sushi when you talk to the chef. I appreciated the fact that he let me go rice-less with my tamago. There aren't many places that do that for you. For some nigiri such as the scallops, I even added yum yum sauce just for the heck of it. You know, try new things. I would love to give this place the 5 stars that they deserve, but this sushi joint has one major downfall. The waiters. Super inattentive. It seems that whenever I need something from them (water, appetizers, dessert, the BILL), they're just never there. I had to literally hawk my eyes around the restaurant for the first available waiter to tell him my order before he goes back hiding in the kitchen. Several male waiters just kept walking to and from the kitchen, ignoring customers like me that needed assistance, even as I raised my voice and kept saying "excuse me!" However, it seems that for their friends that visited for the evening, their needs are met whenever they ask. There was literally a waiter right next to me that just kept ignoring my requests as his attention was on his friend who happened to be sitting right next to my group at the bar. Thanks for the service. I guess. Despite the hiccups with the restaurant's waiters, the food here is still solid enough to get me to come back. That is, after I finish my checklist of other AYCE sushi restaurants.
