| - Aside from what I've read so far about the hoopla... here is my experience. I can definitely say that I was cautious but I was trying to stay open-minded.
After a few hours of shopping, I got hungry and wanted to get some dinner before heading home. As I walk in, Samy greets me and seats me by the window, there was one other customer other than me already there. Kinda slow night I guess, but it was Wednesday night. As I look over the menu, I was craving pasta..the Garlic Mushroom Chicken sounded good.. I told Samy that I would like that, and he said "pizza?" I said, "Oh no, um, sorry, I thought that was pasta," as I quickly scan the menu again. "Don't worry, my wife can make you the pasta with those ingredients if you like." "Sure", I say, a little impressed that he was trying to customize it.
The other customer and across the restaurant started talking to me, which was a little strange, but I guess I started talking back since we were the only two people eating. He moves from his table over to mine, trying to share his pizza. I felt a bit awkward, but I knew he was trying to be nice.
Samy comes by and starts chatting with us, he says that they have been in business for 3 years, he's from Israel, how his wife is the chef, etc. etc. It almost seemed surreal since I kept thinking of how they were acting on the news, it was a completely different attitude.. (yeah, I know, a whole different scenario as well).. but he did tell me a lot about his life and asked me questions as well.
The Chicken Fettuccine was really rich, could have used more chicken (or bigger pieces), but was not bad. I was stuffed pretty quickly. Samy came by and asked how the food was, 'good' I replied. A couple that they knew came in and Amy came out and chatted with them for a bit, so it seems to me that they rely most of their business through friends of friends and such.
Do I think the food was terrible? Not by any means, but I only had one dish. I think they were wrong (and definitely hurt themselves, by the way business looks) by lashing out at Joel, but I did feel welcomed while I was there. Maybe because it was slow, maybe they felt like being over-friendly because they lost potential customers, but I was expecting a lot worse. As I leave, Samy and Amy are still talking to the couple, but Samy remembered to thank me on my way out.
My guess is that ABC has been hurting from all this and is trying to step up their game in customer service, in which I kinda felt bad for them, so I guess this experience was 'A-OK'.
