I am sad to have to write this about my favorite supermarket. I buy almost everything here, even their gas which is located by their Fry's Marketplace located on 90th and Via Linda. The manager at the 90th Street store is super effective and has quickly resolved the few issues I have brought.
The object of my complaint is senior day discounts. Senior day is the first Wednesday of the each month. Seniors get 10% off each item they buy (with the exclusion of certain items).
As I do a lot of shopping on Senior days, I noticed that many of the prices were higher on senior day. Although, I was to get 10% off, it would be 10% off the higher prices. This last time, I went to shop for a number of items that I needed the TUESDAY before Senior Day.
On Tuesday, I bought Kroger brand cream cheese (8 ounces) for $1.00 and DiGiorno Frozen Pizza for $4.99 among other items. The next day (on Wednesday, Senior Day) I checked on the cream cheese which was now priced at $1.49. Minus the 10% discount of 15 Cents, the actual cost was now $1.34 or 34 cents more than the day before. The DiGiorno Pizza was priced at $5.99 or $1.00 more than on Tuesday. With the senior discount the cost was $5.39 or 60 cents more than on Tuesday.
These additional amounts charged add up to quite a bit when you have a large number of items to be purchased.
I don't understand why Fry's would make these price changes before Senior Day considering that it is unlikely that the prices changed overnight on the existing inventory.
