This was stop number 2 in my Toronto brewery adventure. It was a little bit of a challenge to find it at first as its elevated in a plaza that isn't directly visible from the street. Very cool that it's housed in an old railroad engine house (where the other half of the building is the actual railroad museum).
You may have noticed from the other reviews that they only brew one single type of beer. Yes, only their namesake Pilsner. While I normally will not order a Pilsner if there are other choices, I did enjoy the beer. Apparently their brewery was designed and engineered only to create this single type of beer, something that they are not ashamed to point out. I guess it's a little bit refreshing to see that in a world where most breweries rely on releasing new beers to keep things exciting.
The tour is very well thought out. You pay $10 for the basic tour. Included is a sample while you're waiting for your tour to begin, a bottle of beer as the tour kicks off to drink along the way, and then another sample at the end of the tour. Then you get a boxed pint glass to take home as you leave. The tour is mostly along catwalks on the second floor of the brewery that allows you to get a good view of everything that is happening without getting in the way of the brewers.
Helpful tip: Like hoppier IPAs? When they let you sample the barley, ask for one of the hop pellets and chew on it while you take a swig of the beer. Not quite an IPA but close taste-wise!
