| - Beyond 0 stars; this Hertz rental company is absolutely ridiculous & I would recommend to NEVER use their services!
We came from Alberta and had made the booking online & paid online; when it came to going through the hoops of getting our rental, the male employee wouldn't take no for an answer in regards to additional insurance until my mom told him I work in the insurance industry & know what I'm doing, at that point he shut up about it but than became fairly rude & as he "ran" my credit card for $400+ dollars as collateral, he then claimed that my credit card was declined. I knew it shouldn't have been but assumed maybe it was because I was in a different province and my card company might have had concerns with that amount being used in one shot. So my mom suggested she just put the collateral amount on her card, the employee rudely told her no because she could lie and say she never rented the vehicle because it was under my name (he actually said this). I asked him to try my card again, but he refused telling me it wouldn't work. My mom than suggested we switch it over to her in which he told her that they can't because they might not have a proper vehicle (even though we were standing right there & had a vehicle for me....), he "called his manager" and mumbled a bit before saying the only option was to either cancel it all & put it under my moms name with the potential to not have a proper vehicle for us or to have my mom as an additional driver (which is an additional $100+).
I suggested to my mom for us to go to another rental car company because he was taking us for a ride, but my mom at this point was just tired and wanted to get the hell out of dodge so she agreed to be added on as a driver. We had to have a car seat renal & just an FYI, don't bother renting it, might as well bring your own because the one they rent is nothing but extremely cheaply made plastic.
Their vehicle was scratched all to hell, and as we got in to the sunlight we could see even more scratches throughout the entire vehicle; took photos of any damage we saw as no employee walked around the vehicle with us & as the garage is dark, we hadn't noticed a few of them when we advised the attendant to the ones we did see.
I looked in to my credit card company to ensure no issue if I use it while I'm out in Ontario & after speaking with my credit card company, they noted that there was no issue in using it out of province/country except if it were for a substantially high amount ($1,000 & up) & that my card balance was available.
So from my perspective it seems like this employee "ran" my card then claimed it was not working, more than likely to get an additional driver added on for more money; I wonder how many people he has done this to in the past and maybe even right now.
When we returned the rental, the person in the lot accepting the vehicles back was fairly friendly & was nice enough to go out of his way to grab us a cart for our suitcases.
I will NEVER use Hertz or recommend Hertz after my experience here; in my opinion, it seems their using every opportunity to make an extra buck.
