I created this account to post my first ever Yelp review because that's how good The Flying Biscuit is! A friend and I were hungry and trying to decide what to have for lunch today. On a whim, we stumbled across The Flying Biscuit. It was almost empty aside from a handful of customers. I knew right away just from the eclectic decor that we were in for a treat. Our server's name was Claudia. She was very nice and friendly and had our orders out in less than ten minutes. Granted, we went early on a Friday afternoon but for what it's worth, our food was so good I wouldn't have minded having to wait during their busy hours. My friend ordered the Turkey Hash and I ordered Pasta, Sausage and Eggs. We fell in love with our food! Rarely am I ever able to find a place on my very first visit where everything is delicious. The portions are more than generous and reasonably priced. We both took home half of everything. I tried some of her hash. The turkey was tender and perfectly seasoned. I've already decided it's what I'm going to order on my next visit. I was initially wary of a dish that mixes penne pasta and scrambled eggs but oddly enough, the combination works. The flavors of the spinach and chicken sausage and cheese and mushrooms were well-balanced to where not one ingredient overpowered the others. But far and away the best part of my meal: the creamy dreamy grits. Oh my gosh the grits! I'm not exaggerating when I say they are THE best grits I've ever had in my entire life. They're like crack in a bowl! I don't eat grits that often but when I do order them, I usually have to add salt, pepper, and butter to taste. Not this time. They were incredible! It would be worth it just to order a big bowl of creamy dreamy grits. They were so smooth and they melt in your mouth. One other component of the meal: the biscuits of course were great...light and fluffy. I'm convinced they've kidnapped someone's grandmother and is holding her hostage in the kitchen and the only thing she's allowed to do is make biscuits all day. Claudia directed us to a squeeze bottle of apple butter on our table for our biscuits. I usually cannot stand apple butter. It's gross and I hate the taste of it. I feel like something with the word apple in the name should at least taste like apples. I guess because everything else was so delicious, I thought "Why not?" and decided to try it anyway. I can now say the only apple butter I will ever eat is The Flying Biscuit's. I got a small cup of it to go with the other half of my biscuit that I took home. I love going to restaurants with inventive menus that don't serve the typical fare that you can get anywhere else. The Flying Biscuit is now one of my new favorite places to eat, hands down. I can't wait to go back!
