I have always liked credit unions and the UW Credit Union is no exception. However, for the last year I have complained to them that their IRA savings rate (a paltry 0.13%) is too low compared with others -- especially since the Fed has raised interest rates. Today was the last straw when the branch manager basically told me they don't need to attract deposits so pay accordingly. I replied they had increased the non-IRA savings and CD rates so the argument had no merit. So I closed my account today and moved it to another credit union which is paying 1.75 for a one year IRA CD. While they have great customer service, their non-competitive savings rates are a turn off.
