| - Never again.
I don't care how low my budget is at that time, I will never stay at the Rio again. First things first, as you already know, it is not on the strip. It's on the other side of the freeway between Caesar's Palace and the Bellagio on Flamingo Street. They used to have a shuttle that took you to the strip and back but they recently eliminated it. So unless you plan on making one trip to the strip, walking everywhere you need to go and making another trip back at night, I would highly recommend getting a rental car if staying here. Those Uber/Lyft rides will add up (mine were $7-$8 per ride).
Next, the site says that the rooms are updated and renovated. Well, not all of them. My parents had a strip view in the iPanema tower and the room was updated. I'll admit it has a nice view. We had a mountain view in the same tower and our room was very dated. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. The hotel itself is clean but the hallways smelled like a hospital to me. Also, the elevators are possessed. They stop at random floors and the doors became stuck when opening twice while we were there. The staff was nice and friendly. WARNING: Unfortunately this hotel does have the annoying and pushy timeshare people that ask you if you want show tickets and what day you are leaving every single time they see you.
Next, with the exception of three places (Smashburger, Sports Deli and the Chinese place next to it), the food here sucks! The buffets are terrible and way overpriced and Hash House a Go Go is a complete joke.
The only reason I gave this hotel a star is because Chippendales is there. A wonderful show indeed! This place needs a serious makeover and fast!
