| - My first stop when I got to Cleveland was at Hot Sauce Williams, restaurant on Cleveland's East Side, which features a variation on a polish boy that includes the addition of smoked and barbecued pork shoulder to the sandwich, was featured in June 2010 on the Travel Channel's Man vs. Food. Host and food enthusiast Adam Richman tried their Polish boy, which featured the restaurant's signature hot-sauce.
The place is a bit divey. The neighborhood questionable. There was a homeless man out front asking every one for money. I didn't feel unsafe, however, and the ladies were really helpful. Being from the Midwest, I didn't understand all the menu options and they were quick to explain. When I looked around the bright pink, run down restaurant, I saw quite a mix. A couple young girls on lunch break, a small black family and a cluster of little old white ladies in another corner.
I came strictly for the polish boy. A big time foodie I ALWAYS have to try the local delicacies. The Polish Boy is a sausage sandwich native to Cleveland. It consists of a link of kielbasa placed in a bun, and covered with a layer of french fries, a layer of barbecue sauce or hot sauce, and a layer of coleslaw. While the sausage is typically grilled, some establishments will quickly deep fry the sausage after grilling and prior to assembling the sandwich. The sauce, ladies and gentlemen, oh that sauce! It was delicious!!
After eating I headed out back and talked to Willie, who has been manning the ribs for 38 years. Give him a few bucks if you have them!
