| - What an amazing place! I have become a fan of tiki over the past year after visiting Trader Sam's at Disneyland in Anaheim-it was love at first visit, and have progressed to the point that I have a rum collection and can make a lot of really good tiki drinks at home. While I love Hula's modern tiki (the only semblance of quality tiki that I've been able to find in the valley)-their ambiance is marvelous, they have GREAT food, and make a delicious scorpion bowl, their tiki drinks are not that great. And I was very surprised when I asked one of their bartenders if they have demerara rum, and he didn't know what it is. NOT the case at UnderTow! These folks are master tiki drink makers who are not only well versed in the classics, but have done an AMAZING job of taking tiki drinks to the next level. Their zombie is the best I've ever had and EVERY drink that my wife and I have had there has been OUTSTANDING! If you love rum and tiki drinks, you must go.
If the drinks are not enough to draw you, you definitely want to experience the space. They have done a MARVELOUS job of creating a space that will transport you to another world-the hold of a ship that is complete with authentic and artistically done tiki statues, windows that look out on the ocean, soothing and relaxing island/exotic music, and a wide variety of beautiful tchochkies that you would expect to find on an old pirates ship/tiki bar. VERY lovely and immersive!
Finally, my wife and I have really enjoyed the two bar tenders that served us. Both took the time to tell us about the ingredients of the drinks, learn our individual tastes, and make spot on recommendations on what we should try next. Danielle and Mitch added the special personal touches that made our two visits so far very special.
Be warned, we have had trouble getting in! There is much demand for what they are doing and we have had trouble getting reservations-but we will keep coming. What an amazing tiki experience! Thank you Undertow!
