| - I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately it fell flat. I love speakeasies, especially coming from NYC, so I made it a mission to drop by all of them that I could find in my one night in Montreal during this trip. The entrance is hidden in the sense that it looks like either a residential stoop and/or a suit shop. When you walk up the stairs and get inside, you'll enter a pretty empty wooden room with a huge mirror. That's actually where the door is hidden, but wait in the room and someone will come out to greet you! There were a few parties that wandered inside themselves and ended up coming outside to wait anyways :P
When we got there around 10:45pm, there were about 2 other two-person parties in front of us. I think we may have waited around 20-30 minutes before we got inside, and by then, the waiting room was filled with people! When you enter, you'll see a semi private room (which is where we were seated with another couple), followed by this small bar area. Even though the private room seems pretty cool, it felt like we were kinda isolated from the ambiance of the bar and we experienced a lack of service...
Here, they are a no menu type of speakeasy - tell them what you like and they'll make you a drink. Not sure if there was only one mixologist on staff, but it took him forever to circle around to us. After I got my drink, it was a good, but unfortunately nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary (it was just a whiskey drink with ginger, basically).
Since service was slow, we were only able to get one drink each... :( I would recommend checking out either Le 4e Mur or Big in Japan!!!
