| - Since I am on a weight loss kick right now, I decided to make up my own cool-as-sh*t diet called the "Miso Soup, Brown Rice, Tofu and Seaweed For As Long As It Takes" diet. I was in dire need of these ingredients, and as quickly as possible. Plus, I called around and this was one of the "for sure" places open later on a Sunday. Skinny me, here I come!
Initially, I thought this was a Japanese market, but my Yelp homeslice Tetsuro P. informed me that it's actually a Korean market that has been taken over by the local Japanese community. I had to giggle cuz that's awesome, but then I thought.... WHERE YOU AT, KOREA? Yall need to roll up and Gangnam Style yo fly as*es back up in your own market. There's enough love and gochujang paste to go 'round.
Aaaaaa-neee-wayzzz,
This place is spacious! It was much larger than I thought it would be. Very inviting. Brightly lit, and despite the isles being a little bit small and overcrowded, things were well organized. It was almost like they were trying to cram too much Asian goodness into the place.
I never felt judged or weird here, like at some of the Asian markets I have been to in the past. It's bad enough not being Asian in one of these joints, but having tattoos and stretched ears usually makes me stand out like a sore thumb. NOT HERE! I actually saw like, three other alt chicks besides me shopping. Sweet. Possible alternate reason I wasn't judged: There are more Mexicans working here then Asians. Real talk.
Now to the little stores. This place has a few perimeter shops as well as a food court. Because of the aforementioned diet, I unfortunately could not sample the delights that the food court promised. Sad day.
I did check out the coffee shop/bakery. Not much to report there. *shrug* Maybe it's better during the day. Then I popped into the cosmetics store. LOVE! I only looked around for maybe five minutes, mainly because I was afraid of buying something. Everything looked legit. Next time I go, I will definitely be making a purchase there. They had makeup, hair dye, lashes, face creams, that sort of thing. All from Japan or Korea.
They also had a bunch of empty stores, just waiting for some really bomb stuff to fill 'em. Like Mitsuwa Marketplace, they should get a bookstore, liquor store, ceramics place, and a sweet bakery. I would die of happiness. My heart so filled with joy, it would proceed to burst into teeny, tiny, pulpy pieces inside of my chest.
