| - UPDATE 1/31/2017
After writing this review I was approached by the owner of the business and he seemed very thankful for the review (although it was negative) and sincere about making an effort to change the way things were handled in regards to my complaint.
I have to say without a doubt there has been a major improvement to the quality of officiating. I have been impressed for several reasons. First off, the owner is clearly monitoring yelp and other review outlets and using it as a feedback system. Second, he is proactive in addressing the complaints and making adjustments to improve the business. For these reasons, I have updated my review. The original problem has been resolved and I feel confident that any future issues encountered by myself or others will be addressed and handled if brought to the staff's attention.
PREVIOUS REVIEW
Longevity Sports center is a great facility, which is kept clean and maintained well. The guy who runs the place is friendly, cordial and really seems to care about customer satisfaction.
To establish a point of view I am a lifelong and avid soccer player who has played at very competitive levels and now plays only for fun and exercise. I have played soccer around Las Vegas, the rest of the country, Europe, and Brazil. My experience with playing at longevity spans at least 5 years on half of a dozen teams with leagues of varying competition levels. In many of the cases, I simultaneously play here as well as in Summerlin.
Without question, the officiating has been a constant matter of debate on all of the teams I have been a part of at longevity. To my recollection, this issue has not come up at Summerlin or any other place that I can remember playing over the past 30 years. The majority of the men's games seem to be reffed by two latino guys. It is my opinion and the popular opinion of several my teammates on several teams that motivated me to publish this review. The consensus is there is quite a bit of favoritism at play when the opposing team is also Latino. Many times the referees will be seen joining the other teams before the game or at half-time for handshakes and catching up. I get it, and I don't have an issue with that.
I have noticed a pattern over the years with games and seasons at Longevity. Many times as the result of the refs failing to keep the game in check from the beginning, tempers flare and players get injured. This feeling builds over the season among teams and there is always a feeling of "Here we go again" if one of the said referees shows up to officiate. Strategy adjustments are often discussed to deal with the ref situation. Fights and ejections at this facility far exceed the numbers at the many other facilities I have played at in my career.
This could be a top notch place to play soccer and probably a different experience for other age brackets and co-ed games. I know that Longevity offers several other activities and my opinion is strictly geared towards soccer as I have no experience outside of soccer at this facility. I imagine based on what I have seen this is a great place for other activities. However, if you are looking for a place to play indoor soccer in Las Vegas in one of the men's divisions be ready for some drama to unfold in certain games. There is a consensus among players of poor officiating and there is no sign of this changing any time soon.
