| - Deliciousness - 4/5
Happiness - 3/5
Living nearby, I have been really awaiting the opening of this. A new brewery in walking distance? Sign. Me. Up. Now that I've been, another reviewer said they were torn between a 3 and a 4, and I concur.
I went there for St. Patrick's Day and it is more of a restaurant than a bar. It is surprisingly family friendly (though the kids menu is pricey). Everything was... a very mixed bag.
Let's talk about the star of the show. The beer! That's why you go to a brewery, right? The beers were well-priced and absolutely delicious. I had an Irish style beer and loved it. My wife had an IPA and thought it had an excellent bitterness balance. Also, they probably serve the best homemade root beer I've had . My wife and I stole many a sip from our young son (who didn't appreciate the nuanced flavors as much as we did).
The food was all over the place. We ordered the sliders and they were delicious. The buns were excellent and not soggy. You could tell the meat had been freshly ground and were really juicy.
The fries looked good, but tasted bland. Possibly because they are coated in a batter, but they lacked either crunch or softness and really needed some salt.
Speaking of salt, we also ordered the soup special (a corned beef soup for St. Patrick's day). It was a huge bomb of salt, it overwhelmed everything else. And the chunks of corned beef were microscopic. The manager stopped by at some point and even "joked" that we must like salt since we were eating the soup. I feel if you know a menu item didn't work, you should just take the loss and not serve it.
The service wasn't great. I'll chalk it up to being a new place and packed for St. Paddy's. The server took a good 10-15 minutes to return to the table to take our order. It took three people to get the wifi password. At least one dish came our way that wasn't ours. The check came without a pen and the waiter never came back to break my cash for a tip. Again, probably just kinks to be ironed out, but wanted to note it.
