| - When a friend visited me in California, I took her to Yogurtland (http://www.yelp.com/biz/yogurtland-berkeley) and she loved it.
And then she found Menchie's when she came home. so she took me this time! Kind of like a switcheroo! California vs Canada?
I have to admit, Menchie's is a bit pricier than yogurtland, but they are pretty much identical. Rotating flavours that are all fruity, delicious, and sweet. Toppings galore--cereal pieces, chocolate chips, fruit, sprinkles, syrups.
I HIGHLY recommend the little mango bobas. They are my favourite at either place. When they burst, you get a mouthful of mango yumminess!
Self-serve yogurt is a game of strategy. When I first went I was woefully and innocently ignorant of this fact. They charge by weight (50 cents per ounce I think) so you need to decide: yogurt heavy or topping heavy?
Whatever you do, DO NOT fill your cup all the way...that's way too much and leaves no room for toppings! I usually go three swirls of yogurt around the perimeter of my cup (yes, it's an art) so there's a hole in the middle and I fill it with toppings. That way I can almost tell perfectly how much I'm getting.
Fruit is heavy, cereal is not. Mango bobas are not. Choose wisely.
I wish Menchies also had condensed milk. It's amazing--sweet, milky, and adds just an extra thickness without really detracting from taste.
We'll just call it a tie between California and Canada.
