| - I stayed here during a recent business trip to Canada. The Westin Calgary is conveniently located downtown, so it's in close proximity to not only my company's office, but also to many restaurants and shops.
First, the good:
- Great location
- Friendly staff
- Clean, well maintained, and spacious rooms
- They have an interesting "Make a Green" choice program where, instead of having room service fully clean your room every day, you can instead opt to get a $5 food voucher or 500 credit to your SPG rewards account instead (which I like as a bonus since I'm not too messy, so I don't need a full room cleaning every single day)
And, the not so good:
- Meals/room service here is a gigantic ripoff. I ordered a small salad for dinner one night because I was too tired to go out for food. That single salad cost $25 CAD ($30 after factoring in gratuity). The Westin definitely knows their audience is a bunch of business travelers and inflates the prices appropriately
- The fitness center here is pretty bad. It has a tiny gym with freeweights (large enough to fit like 2 people... so unless you're the first one in to claim a bench, good luck maintaining your GAINZ during your stay here) and another room with like 6 treadmills (the room is very tiny and claustrophic, and the temperature is set way too high, which only helps percolate everyone's sweaty BO into your nostrils)
OVERALL: 3/5. It's definitely convenient for a business trip, and the rooms/amenities are decent, although the room service and fitness centers have issues as I mentioned above. All in all - I would stay again if I was traveling here on business... for a personal trip, probably not.
