Having lived in both Portland, OR and Brooklyn, NY I feel as though I have pretty good taste in beer. It also means I've become very spoiled over the years with where I could buy beer. So, it's pretty hard to impress me. Épicerie Unique did. This is basically the motherload of Canadian craft beer. And it was so refreshing to see a bottle selection with an incredible range instead of the typical IPA heavy offerings at most places (here's looking at you PDX!) Indeed, this place has a ton of esoteric beers ranging from Belgian quads, Russian Imperial stouts, barleywines, and tons of barrel aged stuff. I assume the vast majority of their bottle collection is either impossible or extremely difficult to find outside of Canada. We came away with an impressive range of stouts and sours, all were delicious.
Beyond the beer there is a very cool guy named Bashar working here. He helped us find some excellent stouts that I might have overlooked or been unable to find. Thanks Bashar!!!!
If you're in the area and need amazing and rare beer, look no further!!!
