  • Charlotte Douglas is seriously not a bad place if you need to be stuck somewhere on a layover. As other reviewers have said, CLT has a warm feel to it and there's lots to do: plenty of shopping and places to eat. There are lots of windows so it's perpetually sunny. The airport is shaped like a starfish with five arms, and while the distances between some terminals can be long, the moving walkways will help you get there fast. It seems like the staff here really want to take care of you. There are staff who drive small motorized carts, helping elderly and disabled to get around. In the ladies room, there are bathroom attendants providing a convenient but awkward service: helping you to find a clean stall, cleaning each stall after use and refilling the supply of complimentary listerine and feminine products. All the while sing-songing "Welcohm ta Char-lot, laydees. I'll have a clean stall for ya in a minett." The tip jar sits right next to the mints. I loved the sunny laid back feel to Charlotte: the rows of ficus trees and white rocking chairs around every corner. IMHO, Charlotte airport is an example of what an airport should be: the combination of utility and function with appealing design, perfect for work or play.
