  • 2 stars- terrible service and only a couple good dishes. The Barrymore is beautiful inside, with people singing and nice lighting. I had made a reservation for my birthday. When I arrived they told me 10 minutes and as I waited with my party, the phone at the hostess desk rang un-answered constantly. This should have been a sign. Once seated my boyfriend was unhappy about the booth, but it didn't bother me. Then it took at least 20 minutes for anyone to come over and take drinks. Another 20 for bread to arrive. Then the bottle of champagne came out that we ordered and we were told it had been chilling, we can feel the bottle if we would like, but we may want it a bit colder. I tasted it and it was room temperature.... so it had to sit for 20 minutes in ice. The sommelier however was amazing and made me a chair out of the cage on the bottle. Then after being there an hour we got to order. We were pressured by the waiter to all get appetizers and entrees and that they didn't come with sides just garnishments so we needed that too. He seemed offended when not all of us wanted appetizers. It took 40 more minutes for the food to come. Once it did half of the party enjoyed their dinner, half did not enjoy it. The bread, octopus and Brussels sprouts were all fantastic, my salmon was good with the hollandaise. Both of the fish dinners came with sides, the steak did not. My boyfriend's steak was charred on the outside and tasted burned, but the inside was blue, not just rare, blue. He was bummed especially since he ordered it medium rare. They also brought me the wrong dinner at first, so I had to wait a bit longer for my dinner as well. I was so excited to go to The Barrymore and bring 4 friends. I've been talking about going for the last year and now I wished I had picked somewhere else for my birthday. It took 2 1/2 hours to eat dinner and it seemed their service was pushy when there and overall unattentive. They are only looking for you to spend as much as possible and don't care about your experience. Except for the sommelier, he was lovely.
