  • Unfortunately, you have to give one star just to write a review...If you can get internet/cable/phone from another party, DO IT! I work from home and had to switch from COX to CenturyLink because COX no longer supports analog telephone service, which I need for a fax machine. I was with COX for four years and had no problems other than an occasional outage due to extreme weather, or someone accidentally cut the line. I had CenturyLink for six weeks and had technicians out to my house three times! Only one of them seemed to actually know what they were doing. I ordered internet and phone. It worked for about a week. I called customer support after it has been down for two days, and was told it was an upgrade. I was asked several times if I received an email or letter informing me about the "upgrade." I was assured the outage wouldn't last much longer. I had not received a letter or email because the "upgrade" was someone stole the copper wire out of the main junction box for the neighborhood and 17 of us were out of service for four days. Once my service was up and running again, it lasted for about ten days. I again called customer service, and they couldn't find any trouble on their end but could send a technician out for $85.00 - I had only had service for less than a month. The second technician came out and seemed to get the services back up and running again, for another week. This time a technician came out and showed me where the last technician cut all the wires and he couldn't figure out how my service was working in the first place. He fixed the wires and changed the phone jack in my office. I needed to move my fax machine, so I unplugged the phone line...the phone plug fell into the receptacle behind the wall. The technician replaced the phone jack with some round 70's looking phone jack that doesn't attach to anything and I had to take the face plate off to reconnect the phone line. I ended up having to thread the phone line through the face plate, connect it to the phone jack and hold it in place while I tried to screw the face plate back on, or the phone jack would just fall back into the receptacle. Mind you, my house is less than 5 years old, and the phone jack he took out had only been used for the last three months. I called COX and made an appointment to reconnect service that day. I called CenturyLink to cancel my service. I was put on hold while the customer service rep "checked the technician notes." After 8 minutes on hold, I could hear her come back on the line but was silent. I said, hello? She said, Oh, you're still here. I'm still checking the notes. Another two minutes later, she hung up on me. I was finally able to cancel my service, but only after chewing out the customer retention guy. It's not his fault, but he works for a crap company. Oh, BTW, make sure you call the correct customer service number for what you need, there are several customer service numbers, all are not equal. If they wonder why I'm not paying my final bill, see above.
