Here we go again. I had my previous review deleted along with 10 other former Dwell tenants. Just to keep an accurate tally, 10 of the 11 deleted reviews were one star reviews and one was a five star review. I think the woman who gave 5 stars also mentioned she was heavily sedated or on some strong medication when giving that review. So to be clear, 17 total reviews thus far and a rating of 1.58.
Anyway, my previous review detailed how I fulfilled my lease agreement and vacated after 12 months. I gave my notice to vacate, but it wasn't the full 30 days. No one in the office said that I needed to stay an extra few days to avoid an early termination fee. I asked if everything was in order and the woman in the office said yes. They even hit me for new drip pans on the electric stove which I replaced myself. I bought a 4pk from Lowes for $10 and they charged me $25 to replace them. I spoke to my lawyer and he said it's an unscrupulous practice that is too common among apartment management companies, but they'll win 10 times out of 10. I relented and paid an extra $1200, but demanded an email and receipt showing the debt was paid in full.
Fast forward to today. I received a call from a collections agency regarding an outstanding debt from Dwell apartments. I've never received a call from a collections agent, but I've heard horror stories. He was the nicest rep that I could imagine. I might search for his company after this and give him 5 stars. I sent him the email from Dwell showing the debt was paid in full and a copy of my final check to Dwell. The matter was resolved in minutes. He also had some less that flattering things to say about Dwell which in one of their biggest accounts. When your own collections agency thinks you're doing a horrible job, it might be time to look at doing something different.
