  • I rented a Nissian Frontier; which started out as a great experience but has turned into a small nightmare! I rented the Nissian from Ben, he stated he was the Manager of the Gibson Store on November 12th. I had reserved a small compact car for a month, I was going to be driving to UT for the Thanksgiving Holiday, and when Ben heard that he asked if maybe a 4 wheel drive wouldn't be better with all the snow that they were getting, great idea and I was very pleased that he had thought of that. By the way, it didn't snow, but I was still pretty happy about Ben thinking of that for me, yes it was an upsale, but that's ok. Fast forward to yesterday December 2, 2014, it rained and I turned on the windshield wipers to find that the rubber was shredded and of no use in the rain and the metal on the wiper was scraping the window and could cause damage. I made it to work and called the Gibson store; an associate answered the phone and was so rude! I told her about the wiper and that the car was unsafe to drive in the rain and asked if these things were checked prior renting out vehicles, her response was "Excuse me?" in a loud rude tone. She basically told me it was my responsiblity to return the vehicle so they could exchange it with another. It's unsafe to drive in the rain with no wipers and damage to the window, she basically told me oh well. I then called roadside assistance and asked if they could just come change the wiper blade, they could not and they could only tow the vehicle and I could take a taxi to the Hertz store and go from there, not a great idea as I had no cash on me for the taxi. I called back around 12:30ish and asked for the Manager, Ben then told me he was the manager. I told him about my conversation with her and he apoligized. By the way not once did she apologize about the unsafe vehcile. Ben told me he didn't know what to do, I told him I had already called roadside assistance and what they said. Ben stated to wait until it stopped raining and then drive the car in; it was projected to rain all day and for 2 days. At 4 pm I called Ben back and asked what he wanted me to do as it was still raining; he said he didn't know so I asked if someone could bring me a car, he said he didn't have the staff for that. I asked him if he is suggesting that I drive the unsafe vehicle in the rain and now pitch black out as it is now night time. He said no; so I asked if I should just sleep at the office with no other way to get home. Ben FINALLY said he would send someone to get me; Eddie arrived at 5 pm, now I have been trying to get this taken care of for HOURS, when HERTZ should have come up with a plan to get me into a safe vehicle instead of me wasting HOURS trying to do YOUR job! Eddie was a very nice guy, it's pitch dark out, raining and he said he brought me a car and he would drive the truck back, nice let's let the empolyee drive the unsafe vehcile in the rain, in the dark. He brought me a Mercedes, which is fine, I get in the car and go home. Eddie tells me the engine check light may come on but if it does just hit the OK button; He said Hertz doesn't do the oil change at 3,000 mile like Mercedes likes, they do it at 5,000 miles instead. The coolant light comes on, so was this vehcile sent out without so much as checking the fluids? What kind of service do you give to your fleet of vehicles? How many other vehicles need fluid and good wipers? This is all very scary! This morning, in the light of day I check out the car, there are dents and scrapes all over the rear passenger panel and back bumper which I could not have seen last night in the dark and rain so off I go to see Ben at Hertz; he was rude when I said hi and introduced myself, his response was "Oh hi", I told him of the damage to the car and the smoke smell, he told me there was no damage to the vehcile, which I asked him to come look and lo and behold, there is damage. He did make note of the damage and I added the smoke smell to the paperwork. I am a non smoker, the car stinks and to be honest I am not up to rude service to get another vehicle. This whole situation is horrible, I find your upkeep of your fleet of vehicles to be appalling and unsafe. I think people need to know how you keep your fleet of vehicles and the rude service when someone needs help in an unsafe situation.
