| - Using a throwaway account as the owner uses intimidation, shock effect, condescention and goodness knows what else to squash anyone and everyone who might have something negative to even think about her. I read the reviews and responses carefully and I see the same pattern that others have pointed out - we see a person who cannot handle criticism or free spirit or open minds if it is not in her favor.
We were tipped off as secret shopper agency several times in regards to Breathe, and finally decided to see what all the fuss was about. And fuss there is, folks, don't let the "Calgary's top studio" tagline lure you.
Yoga is a positive movement that also cares for the wellness of those who practice. This is not an establishment that shows neither of those things. You can see it in the owners responses that she does in fact think she is a master of everything and you should be honoured to worship at her altar. Or her bio...she did yoga once and immediately decided she was a master.
In studio, the energy is worse. You are immediately affronted by lists of rules, posted everywhere. You are greeted by receptionists who are, to be blunt, almost universally rude and distant with maybe one or two exceptions...who may or may not be eating while snarkily asking which class you're attending. On one occasion, our shopper was shocked two see two receptionists eating McDonald's cheese burgers while scanning yoga cards.
Yoga instruction - nothing to remark upon. Teachers go through the motions, energy isn't anything to remark on except maybe... One of fear? Maybe if they don't follow the rules something happens? Either way, not bad instruction but not "award winning" by Calgary standards. Makes one wonder which contest this is as it does not show up in a Google search outside of Breathe. But no negative interactions with teachers.
Wellness - no personalities whatsoever here. You get your treatment. You leave. You might get a smile. If you cancel or miss an appointment, it's bad luck for you. If you attend an appointment and don't enjoy it, she fires the therapist (according to the Breathe Hot Yoga Facebook review page).
Advice if you need to cancel or money back from owner? Find a way to get the instructor you had or receptionist you talked to or therapist you see fired. She will do it. This is the kind of personality flaw you can work to your advantage instead of pleading for empathy to your situation, as we have seen.
Several of us have had the extremely unpleasant experience of "dealing with the owner" throughout the years. Either no replies. Or scathing replies. Or routing to someone else so she can deny blame for herself. One social media post reveals a large population of former customers and employees that have aided us in what to warn others of, and can be easily accessed if you know where to look.
Universally, the problem is the owner and her chosen management and all situations can be avoided by not giving her your money... Let alone your yoga practice.
Avoid.
