  • To say I was disappointed would be a major understatement. Had heard really good things about this place and so we were very excited to try it during Restaurant Week for date night....so here you go. 1. Made reservations for 2 at 8:00 on a Tuesday and waited at the bar for 20 minutes - which for the most part was fine as I mentioned...it was Restaurant Week, so no big deal. Took a really long time to have any one ask for a drink order even though there were less than 20 people at the bar and three bartenders and no one waiting for drinks....except me. Decent selection of beers, but initial impression on service and table turn (on time reservation) not good. 2. Got drinks and seated at our table. Great table - kind of right in the middle of the restaurant and great location to watch people - very happy with this. Grace was our server and she was very nice and came to the table right away for water and to explain the menus, etc. Ten minutes later, she was back to take our order. We ordered off the Restaurant Week menus which had quite a few choices - very happy with that. 3. Waited for at least 10 minutes for more beers and another 10 minutes for appetizers. Wife's salad was ok and my shrimp and octopus cerviche was pretty good. The bread wafers and humus were also very tasty. Service at this point was hit and miss and even though Grace had other tables in the area we were seeing less and less of her - a very bad sign as it turns out. 4. People coming and going but by now 9:15, the restaurant is really emptying out, but we still haven't gotten our entree - an hour after we were seated for our 8:00 reservation, still no entrees AND no explanation / apologies for the long wait....in fact, Grace is missing in action. She finally comes by to let us know the kitchen is plating our entrees and they should be right out. Entrees come out and everything looks good (filet / brussel sprouts / potatoes & hangar steak / potatoes and corn salsa) VERY good, in fact. But, one bite of my steak and I pretty much knew my entree had not been "plated" any time in the last 15 minutes...not hot, not warm, but room temperature - at best. Cooked properly, but virtually tepid. After sitting there for the better part of 90 minutes. The brussel sprouts turned out to be one brussel sprout hiding under the filet...did I mention it was Restaurant Week? 5. Both of us ate most of our coldish meal and ordered dessert. Desserts were pretty good - smores trifle and caramel pretzel bar. Caramel pretzel bar was still pretty much frozen in the middle so it next to impossible to cut and eat...smores trifle was really pretty good. However, we had to wait for another 10 minutes for the dessert to come out even though we ordered it when they finally delivered the entrees. 6. After 1 hour and 45 minutes, we were finally ready for the check which I asked for when the dessert was delivered and when the check was brought to the table, I discovered that I had been charged $14 (yes, $14 for two beers) that I paid for with cash at the bar while we were waiting 15 minutes for our 8:00 reservation. Simple mistake...no problem. Grace would get it taken care of with the manager which she did 10 minutes later when they both came to the table to apologize (very nice) but had to run my card AGAIN - which took another 5 minutes or longer. All in all, food was tolerable albeit on the cooler side, Grace started out great, but lost major points for not being attentive and never apologizing for the glacial speed of food coming out of the kitchen - she was very nice and very helpful with some additional beer selections and I never needed to wait for tea refills, but over two hours for dinner on a Tuesday night (during Restaurant Week or not) is a bit excessive. I almost always tip at least 20 % especially at nice restaurants (which this is) and I realize Grace was not able to speed the kitchen up and get food out faster, but in a restaurant that regularly charges up to $30 for an entree during regular weeks (not Restaurant Weeks) I expect considerably more attention and some sort of apology or comp a beer or bring me some more humus or......anything to make me feel like they were trying to make me happy or actually care about my time or enjoyment. I ended up tipping Grace over 20% because (again) it was Restaurant Week and I don't think the food thing was her fault, but she also dropped the ball big time being inattentive. Restaurant Week or not, this was the only time I will going to 5Church which is too bad because I really wanted to like the place, but I didn't.
