| - Having dined at this establishment a handful of times, my boyfriend and I always had very pleasant dinning experiences... until tonight. I kept hoping that maybe, just maybe, it was some horrible April Fool's Day joke that our waiter was playing on us, but alas it was just downright horrible service. I'll begin with the good though:
Every time I've dined at Tutto, I have tried a new dish, and have never disliked any of the dishes I have tried. My favorite appetizers are their calamari (beware the dipping sauce has a kick to it) and the mozzarella square (not sure what it's actually called). Entree wise, I have tried dishes from the manicotti, to the fettuccine Alfredo, to the tortellini, to their signature Tutto pasta dish. It always tastes AMAZING. The portions are very generous and well worth their cost. Also, the food generally comes out rather quickly, which I quite enjoy. I have yet to try their desserts, however I caught a glance at the tiramisu tonight and if I had any room left in my tummy after dinner, I would have jumped on that. Even the free warm bread and oil/balsamic spread is tasty.
So what was so bad about our experience that even such yummy food couldn't make up for the crappy service?
Prior to leaving for the restaurant, we knew that there was a good chance it would be busy and so we made a reservation online which I highly recommend anyone to do. We made ours at 7:30 for 8pm and it worked out very well! Ideally though, you should probably make this a little more in advanced for the restaurants sake. Any who, we were seated promptly and our server took our drink orders and the bussers handed out our bread and spread and water glasses. All was fine and dandy. Then, when not immediately ready to order, the waiter took a ridiculous amount of time to come back and place our order. At the time, we made nothing of it, it was still pretty busy in the place after all. Fast forward a bit and we are enjoying our meals. As per usually, our waiter stopped on by briefly to ask how everything tasted. That was the last time we conversed with him for what felt like forever. After clearly finishing our meal, we watched him walk past our table numerous times to acknowledge all the other tables around us, except us. My boyfriend even made eye contact with him while he was just standing around, and still, nothing. At this point, I decided to make the universal signal that hey, we're done with our meal by placing my napkin from my lap onto the table. Nothing. Then, I noticed that the table next to us, a group of 3 adults probably in their late 30's had not only received their meal, but had also had their plates taken away and been offered dessert by the same waiter that we had, ALL WHILE WE WERE STILL WAITING FOR HIM TO EVEN OFFER US A STINKING TO-GO BOX. Not only did he do this to just that one table, but the two tables behind us who were also groups of 4 or more, and older more well-established adults. At this point, my boyfriend and I determined that he was clearly sucking up to these people for the tips, and discriminating against us because we clearly look like young college kids. While I wanted to leave the waiter a brutal note acknowledging who incredibly rude he was for the treatment we received as well as leave a poor tip, I restrained myself. Just because I'm a college kid, does not mean I do not tip, or tip poorly. In fact, we left him more than a 20% tip because once my boyfriend was finally wave him over for the check, we just didn't want to play the waiting game all damn night and wait for him to give us change. Yes, there are people in my generation who don't fully prepare a proper tip at restaurants, but that doesn't mean all of us don't, nor should we have been ignored because of this.
So, while I love the food and ambiance at this establishment, I cannot give my money to a business that treats its customers like this in the future. We both felt incredibly disrespected during this experience and wouldn't wish it upon anyone else. I do hope that you give them a try, and that your waiter/waitress is more kind and respectful than the one we had. Who am I to say that one bad experience of mine should stop others from trying this place? However, I do feel that this experience does need to be out there for others to hear about and maybe even by the restaurant owners themselves so this doesn't happen to anyone in the future.
