Stopped in for a bite and a beer at this Madison staple. We had the giant pretzel as an appetizer. It was served with homemade mustards which were really tasty, but the pretzel itself was dry and looked and tasted frozen.
For the main course, I tried the Texarkana burger, which was a burger with onion rings and barbecue sauce. I asked for it medium, but the burger's texture was somewhere between a hockey puck and a door mat. I'm not afraid to complain in restaurants, but the food took a while to arrive and I didn't want to keep my entire group waiting (and the waitress's attitude left much to be desired).
The rest of the burger wasn't bad; the ingredients were reasonably fresh, and the sweet potato fries were crisp without the grease.
Their beer selection was decent (don't be prepared to find any Miller Lite on tap). I tried a light Czech pilsner and an amber beer, both of which were above average.
At the end of the day, The Great Dane is a fine place to grab a beer (hence the 3 stars), but I'd go elsewhere to actually eat something.
