| - This store gets a NEGATIVE rating based solely on the fact they used 'Bait and Switch' in their most recent advertisement. First, I called out to get clear directions and time for the store; then, I asked if they would honor their advertisement and was told, "yes, that's why we put out an ad..." and finally, I asked if there were some of the "Easton, Bonded Leather Accent Chairs" in stock. I was told there were 8 in the store. Just to be certain that I was going to be able to buy two of these chairs at the ADVERTISED PRICE OF $50 EACH, I asked one more time if they would honor their ad.
The person I spoke with became brusque and unfriendly and said, "Of course! That's why we have an ad."
With advert in hand, my boyfriend and I traveled 25 miles ONE WAY to get to the store to pick up two of these chairs. Once we got there, the greeter was very nice and convivial and pointed us to the area where said chairs could be found. Upon arrival at the area, a salesman approached us and asked if we could use his assistance; of course, we said yes - we wanted two of the bonded leather accent chairs in black.
I asked him about the advertised price of $50 and this is where everything went bad. "Oh no, those chairs are not $50..." he said, so I flipped the advert over where it was clearly marked $50... "No, these chairs are $94... uh, $99... uh... just a moment please..."
We stood there and watched as he walked over to a kiosk where he accessed a computer and came back to tell us the chairs were, in fact, $159 each. When we pressed, he said there was a "disclaimer" regarding the cost of the chairs and that even his manager couldn't do anything about the price.
He did, momentarily, attempt to get us to think about it, but the potential sale was already gone - no way were we going to purchase the chairs, not even at $99 - after all, that was double what they were advertised and there was no way in HELL we were going to pay three times the advertised price. Instead, my boyfriend thanked him politely and we turned and walked back out of the store.
I will NEVER make the mistake of going here again! To say I was unhappy about the fact they not only TOLD me they honor their adverts twice, but to act like it was MY FAULT they printed a faulty price on the paper and that I should have seen the disclaimer (hint - if there's a disclaimer, then one should automatically ASSUME BAIT& SWITCH) was too much.
I will shop at PRUITTS for my furniture needs - they are close by, have the same type of furniture and whenever they've advertised something at a certain price, THEY HAVE HONORED IT.
AFW will never get a single cent of MY money. Wasted trip, bullshit advertisement.
