| - This review is based on a catering experience I recently had. Although, I regularly shop at this Market District, I feel like the previous reviews have summed up this Giant Eagle experience. Last weekend was the first time I used Giant Eagle for Catering. I needed a quick, easy, cold lunch for about 25 people. After looking at the catering menu. I decided on the wrap platters, a large tossed salad, a lage picnic pasta salad and a medium gob tray. The tossed salad was huge and came with two homemade bottles of dressing. Although the bottles were a little difficult to pour, the dressings were very tasty and we had over half the bottle of dressings left over. I was also pleasantly surprised that the salad was also made up of mixed greens not iceberg or romaine. The picnic pasta salad was also huge and tasty with large black olives and plum tomatoes. The gob platter consisted of chocolate, vanilla and red velvet gobs. The gobs were delicious but many of them stuck together. We had many leftovers of each of the three items listed above. The biggest disapointment was the wrap platters. I was rather surprised that the wrap options consisted of deli meats only- no grilled chicken or steak options. In addition, the platters were small. The menu says that they feed 14-16 people but there were only 16 half wraps per platter (8 whole wraps). That means each person would get 1/2 a wrap. Were I come from, thats not enough to feed 14-16 people. We had to purchase 3 platters to feed 25 people. We did have some left overs, about half a tray of wraps. Overall, Giant Eagle Market District has some good catering options and decent food but the portion sizes are way off. Make sure you ask exactly how many/much you are getting when you order.
