  • I love home improvement stores because I'm obsessed with constantly changing, upgrading, painting, repainting, repainting again, and just generally destroying - uhh, I mean improving - things in my home. That being said, I'm not a "handy-woman" by any means and I rarely if EVER have enough knowledge or even intuition or common sense to do things the right way around my house, and so I'm ALWAYS seeking advice while shopping for a project. Lowe's is THE WORST place to get it. I can never seem to find employees in any section I happen to be shopping in. When I do, they seemed rushed, or uninterested, or inexperienced, or just plain unknowledgeable on the subject about which I'm asking. I was in hardware the other day trying to find the appropriate hooks and chain to hang something from my ceiling (errrr, that sounds super creepy. It's a stain glass picture, I swear). The woman was like, "you'll have to find some sort of hook." Well, aren't I in the mecca of hooks? A hook wonderland? Simply put - the home of hooks? What kind of hook should I be looking for? And where can I find it? The employee seemed completely rushed and put out to be showing me around and helping me find "some sort of hook". I appreciate the vague answer and thanks for nothing. I did manage to find "some sort of hook" and it worked just fine for my project (holy crap, did I figure something out on my own?!?) I've consistently gotten better service at Home Depot when I ask for help so I'll shop at Lowe's only if the prices are better or if they carry something I can't get at HD (some spray paints that I like, for example).
