  • The railroad is a fun and different way to explore our beautiful Cuyahoga Valley National Park! There's lots of stops throughout the park, so if you live nearer Peninsula you don't have to worry about driving to Independence or Akron to pick up the train. How I really got hooked was a few years ago I got my first bicycle since I was a kid, and started riding on the towpath. I'd get several miles away and didn't feel like I could make it back, so I kept my cash on hand to do the Bike Aboard! I've traveled with friends and family through Spring, Summer, and Autumn. The eagles and beavers and sometimes even river otters make for fun "can you spot it" moments. The entirety of the CVSR team are volunteers. I'd say they do a pretty bang-up job (figuratively only, hopefully!) If you're lucky enough to get one of the eldest trainmen in your car, you'll likely get some pretty unique historical facts about the area. Stop at the Canal Visitor Center to learn about how the locks worked. Peninsula has some great historic stops, unique gifts, and fun food options too. I've never done any of the premium rides like the wine or beer events, but we are planning on that this year! Take your camera and a nice backpack, you'll see things you want to remember, and probably buy things you'll want to keep safe on your excursions between stops.
