| - We went to pick up our cake on 5/19 for our event on 5/20.
First of all, I would not recommend picking up a cake that feeds 100+ people. It's much bigger and heavier than you realize. Next time delivery for sure.
Well, we were so amazed at how beautiful the cake was that we did not realize our daughter's name was spelled wrong till we got home. At the store, we were looking at the beautiful detail, college colors done perfectly including the logo, the figures.... just perfection.
I looked at my receipt, and the name was spelled wrong there too, but I did NOT notice!! I was too excited ordering the cake, I guess. I am usually anal about checking those things because we do have some unique spellings. I was sure I had e-mailed the correct spelling of the name, but I checked later and NO. I did not.
Well, we called and the owner was awesome and apologetic, even though it was our fault too for not noticing.
We were able to take the cake to the Sossaman location since it was closer to our home, and the lady fixed the cake for us. Again, another apology when it was not really the store's fault. I was so thankful for their above and beyond service.
I am not a professional photographer, so you cannot see the details and beauty of this cake. I could not be more pleased. I have another child graduating from college in 2 years, and I can't wait to order another cake!!
**Only issue is the frosting was so sweet that I noticed a lot of guests ate around the frosting and you could see "E" shapes on plates due to people eating only or mostly just cake. It was very, very sweet. I guess we like more of a whipped, light frosting. When I make cream cheese frosting, I use cream cheese, butter, vanilla, powdered sugar and some heavy whipping cream for light texture. The other layer was a basic white frosting which actually tasted the same as the cream cheese frosting, so maybe it was not cream cheese. Not sure. Next time we will ask for more filling (raspberry was amazing, but there was hardly any in the cake), and a whipped frosting if they have it.
With samples, you only sample the cake and fillings. You do not know which frostings you will like. We liked the frosting on the cupcakes, though, that we had purchased. However, those were chocolate and different flavors.
As for the fondant, the fondant on the "book" tasted amazing, and I usually think fondant tastes horrible but Piece of Cake has great tasting fondant.
