I shipped a jewelry chest at Christmas time. I dropped off at UPS after spending an hour + packaging so that it wouldn't move and was fully protected by 4" on each side. I arrived at UPS and was rudely welcomed by an older gentlemen (had to have been in his late 70's or early 80's). He grabbed my package provided me with the drop off confirmation and then placed this 40 pound box half on, and half off a rolling cart. I politely asked him to reposition the box so that it wouldn't fall. I received an extremely rude "I do this for a living" response. Okay Okay, you do this for a living, but I just paid 80 dollars to ship a box with you - anyways.....against my better advice I left the store without making it an issue and assuming that the gentleman was correct - he does this for a living. Well 5 days later I receive a call from my customer that the jewelry box is DESTROYED. She sends me pictures and yes - in fact the box is damaged so badly on one corner that the jewelry box inside was not just damaged - it had split the wood.
Now can I say for sure that it fell off that cart after I left - NO, but will I ever ship with UPS or this UPS store again. HECK NO. I'll drive out of my way to drop it off packages at the FEDEX Kinkos or Office Max in Washington. The only packages I drop off at this location are Amazon returns - I could care less if they damage amazon's returns.
