| - I've been in Best Buy stores in several states going back many years. This is one of the less rude ones I've been in. A bit disorganized and a bit understaffed. When I went to buy a lower priced EMachines computer, they did ask intrusive questions, but did not push the limits, which is good because I was ready to raise my voice and get nose to nose with any pushy sales people. Generally I avoid Best Buy due to their looooong standing reputation for deceit/dishonesty and very poor service, but this store is one of the less bad ones in the north-east Phoenix metro area.
I put Best Buy into the same group with Radio Shack, Kmart, XM Radio, and Circuit City; companies with management that appear to be trying hard to put the chain out of business. I would never buy an extended warranty from them because I doubt their doors will be open to see the end of this recession. And for God's sake, don't get suckered into buying those horrid Monster Cables!
The best way to buy electronics is to look at them at Best Buy, then shop on the internet for best price and delivery cost.
Update: went here 8/2010 to buy an expensive DSLR. The one person in the dept said it was not in stock, I said online showed it was in stock, so he got someone else to check. Sure enough, one was in the cabinet. He got it out and walked off leaving me standing wondering... So after about 45 seconds I started walking towards the cashier, he had taken it to the check-out without asking or saying a word. Weird, eh? I only went here because it was the only place I found locally that had it in stock. Walmart.com was cheaper but I didn't want to wait for 1-2 weeks.
Summary: the four NO's when shopping at Best Buy: No Monster Cables, No HDTV Calibration, No computer optimization, and No extended warranty. If you are buying something really expensive I strongly suggest that if it is not factory sealed box you should open it at the register to be sure what the box contains isn't a brick or some rocks. You should not trust this chain to be honest with you.
