| - Lon's at the Hermosa will go down as one of my favorite places to have a special dinner. A VERY special dinner. Lon's is more thus just a place to dine though, Lon's is an experience. It's the place you go to pop the question; to seal the big deal; to meet the parents and impress them beyond all words. Lon's is the place where you take someone or people who are worth premium everything and by premium, I mean THE BEST. I took my husband here on his birthday; selfishly because it is my favorite restaurant in all of the valley. I made sure we took an Uber and got here for happy hour at The Last Drop, so we could enjoy some bubbly while watching the sun set over the mountains. Lon's is a quiet oasis.. set in Paradise Valley under the shadows of Camelback you would never know you were within a hundred miles of a city when you are here. We had our drinks on the patio and enjoyed our favorite starter : The Foie Gras. I can't say enough about the foie gras here; its buttery and rich and creamy and is served in a ramekin that begs you to take a heaping spoonful rather than a smidge and smather it upon the house made bread and top with some of the also , housemade jam. Just a tad. This is the best foie gras I've had in the UNited States. That's quite a feat. We moved over to Lon's amazing patio for our dinner reservation. Live music is usually played here on the weekends and tonight was no exception. It completely added to the perfection of this fall night. I recommend Lon's patio in the Fall and Spring.. as its one of the most amazing patios in the area for dining under the stars. It's even better if you can secure a table either by the fireplace when it's lit or front and center to the live music. The wine list is extensive , start there. If you can't figure it out, don't worry, Lon's has a sommelier on hand to guide you. We love the Caduceus wines that are actually from here in ArIzona. However, there are so many , it's hard to choose. We started this night with a Shrimp Cocktail. Lon's was still under their summer menu; as the menu changes for the season and as much as can be is grown on property, be it a vegetable or herbs. They buy locally when ever possible and it adds to the quality of their meals. The seafood is flown in daily. Our prawns were massive; the size of my fist , a small fist , but you get it! The sauce was perfect and they were served on a Himalayan Salt Block to add to the taste and presentation. I ordered the Pecan Filet. This ample 6-7oz filet came with Lyonnaise Potatoes and creamed greens. You can have the Foie Gras added for $18 and is buttery and decadent, BUT, I had my share of Foie Gras tonight.. I'm advising tho, do it ! The potatoes were perfection , buttery and perfect with the right amount of red wine Demi glacé from the filet. For dessert we were treated to a birthday treat for my husband : Lon's Famous Cowboy Candy Bar! Trust me , after all that you eat and sip here , this is shareable with two! Chili Chocolate Ganache , millefuille pastry , salted caramel and caramel ice cream with a little crunch make this so unique and why would it not be? It's Lon's after all! There is a wine cellar below the main dining room that I have always been curious about seeing; apparently it's for private events and one , well, many! Can dine amongst the wines and also get to take a tour of the cellar. Local bucket list! I always hate when the night at Lon's ends and I have always asked my husband , 'Why did we not just book one of the casitas and stay??' Haha .. he always says , 'Next year ... ' . Until then, I will keep looking for special reasons to come to Lon's at the Hermosa... I seriously love everything about it.
