  • With all the talk about great Cajun food in Vegas, and the stellar reviews Lola's has received, I really couldn't wait to try Lola's food. I should have set my expectations lower. My man and I walked in on a random Tuesday night to a fully packed house. The 2 servers looked a bit overwhelmed but ushered us to a table (I was glad I had made a reservation!) and gave us some menus. As I looked around the restaurant, my excitement only grew. Lola's certainly makes you feel like you're at someone's kitchen in New Orleans. Several New Orleans photos hang on the walls, and a Saints flag is on display at the front of the restaurant. And, while the colorful umbrellas hanging from the pipes were a bit kitch, they were cute kitch. Unfortunately, it was the food that disappointed. First, bread caked with butter (I'm assuming garlic bread but we were not sure) came out to the table. It was almost inedible. Thankfully, the charbroiled oysters came out next, and they were delish. Soon to follow were the crawfish puppies (they taste a lot like conch fritters), which were also pretty good. Finally, what should have been the star of the show, the bronzed catfish served over grits, came out. As I dug into my first bite of the grits, any excitement I had for eating grits in Vegas went out the door... the grits were stone cold. I mean, super duper cold. When I asked my server if grits were supposed to be served cold, she said no and promptly took our plate back to the kitchen. I assumed that she was going to have the chef remake the plate and send it back (as we had like 4 bites total of the fish). Instead, they had simply removed the old grits, plopped new (potentially microwaved) grits on the plate, and reserved the same plate! Unfortunately, the fish got cold because it took about 5 minutes to bring the plate back! And, any stock on the plate had now disappeared because they had scooped it all out when getting rid of the old grits so that the food became extremely dry. All in all, a lackluster meal with lackluster service. What a shame.....
