| - This place will nikel and dime you to death. After years of letting Banfield overcharge me for vet care on their wellness plan (extra fee here, extra fee there), I finally stopped going there. This week, though, my dog needed a bordatella vaccination so that I can board him this weekend. For convenience sake, I called Banfield thinking that surely, they could handle a simple bordatella shot without charging an arm and a leg. A bordatella shot should cost about $25. But of course, because it's Banfield, they didn't tell me on the phone that I would also be paying a $40.95 "office visit" fee that is mandatory for your pet to get an injection of any kind, plus another $8.50 "blood sample" fee, plus another $3.40 "waste disposal" fee. So the $25 shot became $77.80. I should have expected this. They will try to convince you that the office visit fee is a "physical," but a physical should carry you through for at least a few months. Instead, I confirmed that if I wanted to get another vaccination for my pet the next day, I would have the pleasure of paying yet another $40.95 for another office visit. So this isn't really a physical. It's a pointless fee (well, pointless for me - I'm sure they are enjoying picking up $40.95 every time an animal needs the slightest thing).
While I waited for the technician to come take my dog back, I called Commonwealth Animal Hospital who will do the bordatella shot for the appropriate amount of approximately $25 - no extra office visit fee or any other fee. So I walked out of Banfield and won't be back. Commonwealth was able to see me and my dog later that day with no fanfare. Please, for the sake of your wallet, call other vets in the Charlotte area and try them out. You'll be surprised at how affordable they can be. I was.
