| - I took my dog here when he was about 6 months old. I had adopted him at 4 months from a shelter, and he had since developed an ear infection. This was his first trip to the vet (outside of the shelter), and he walked into the clinic bouncy and curious.
We were taken to a room pretty quickly, and a female vet came in to see him (I do not remember her name, this was a little while ago). My dog, a puppy who had been found living on the streets, jumped on her and greeted her very energetically. The first thing the vet did was admonish me for my pet's behavior, telling me that I needed to get him in obedience classes. I told her that he was in obedience classes, but I had only had him for 2 months, and well, he's a puppy! She acted as though this wasn't an adequate excuse for his behavior.
She proceeded to examine his ear. He was tentative about this because his ear hurt him. She got increasingly exasperated as his attempts to shake her off of his ear, and she once again admonished me for gunk in his ear and how bad the infection was. I had taken him to the vet as soon as I noticed his symptoms, a couple of days after he went swimming in a creek.
She then called in a tech because she was having trouble cleaning his ear. At this point, my dog was picking up on her agitation and was getting more and more nervous at her touch. When he wouldn't stand still for the tech, she said they would take him in the back where they could better handle him.
They returned 15-20 minutes later and told me they just couldn't get his ear clean. She gave me medication and cleaning solution and instructions on how to use it in a tone which said, "Good luck with your bad dog, lady!" At this point my dog was clearly unhappy and scared, tail between his legs, and wouldn't go near the vet. When I checked out, the front desk staff saw that he was now a really unhappy dog, and suggested that I bring him back several times a week just to walk him in and out and improve his opinion of the place.
Since this visit, I have of course switched to a different vet. I struggled for a long time for my dog to let me near his ears for cleaning, and he has been scared of veterinary offices ever since. I strongly do not recommend this vet's office.
