| - This is an update: the original review is as below.
The person I left a message for did return my call. Her name is Michelle. She is in Ohio and she sounds very different from Red Rock Surgery Center staff (in Las Vegas) -- far more educated and polite. Long story short, she resolved the conflicts for me promptly. (She even gave me her cell number so that texts can be used for further communication.)
I have yet to get a check (a small amount compared to what we paid, but what we had paid on the day of surgery was agreed upon, i.e., it was transparent).
I still do not understand the $40,000 bill for a 2-3 hour procedure (and this does not include a surgeon's or anesthesiologist's fees) but that's the American healthcare system. Everyone else does it. Even "non-profit" Catholic hospitals! Absurd to the nth degree. It's Wild Wild West without regulation. Interestingly, just as in this case, most of it gets written off for a patient, and s/he pays only a fraction of the original bill!
The question that lingers in my mind, of course, is: Would Michelle have called me back if I had not written the earlier review? Is Yelp.com the only leverage we (consumers) have? If so, the Internet is indeed an "empowering" tool for us. (I also know it can be used against me.)
The way Michelle spoke, however, indicated to me that she's a very conscientious person, and sounding "conscientious" is not something you can fake. Most importantly, I want to believe in humanity. We are not living here on this earth just to cheat one another for money.
**************************************************************
This place is...run by crooks... Like the old-time crooks you hear about or read about in books or watch on TV or movies. For a 2-3 hour procedure, this places charges you $40,000. You call them and they say they are not responsible for billing. The biller is located in Ohio. You call the biller's number and they answer "Ohio Eye Institute." What?? Eye Insitiute?? Of course, the person you're supposed to talk to is never in. Only voice mail... I left four messages. No return calls.
Businesses like this still exist????
We went there only because our surgeon uses that facility. Believe me that we are holding him responsible for this freaking mess.
