| - I travel for business quite a bit and have rented from all the 'majors'. This was my first Dollar rental, and it will surely be my LAST.
My wife rented the car, and since we have never been charged for adding a second driver, especially if it is a 'spouse', we assumed they wouldn't charge us. Their rental agreement says, "There MAY be a charge for adding a driver" (emphasis mine). Enterprise and Hertz have never charged us for an additional driver.
We were told by their rental agent that it would be $13 per day EXTRA for the additional driver. I asked him to waive it and he refused. I told him this was my first rental at Dollar and their rental agreement seems to have left room for a waiver of the fee. He refused again.
SO, if you plan on an additional driver from these guys, ADD $13 PER DAY TO THE PRICE, because "MAY" evidently means "WILL" in their world.
The car was a mess, inside and out. The back seat had some kind of junk smeared all over it (see photo). We were in a hurry and had to spread a sheet over the back seat, rather than deal with the rental agent again. There was dirt and candy wrappers in the console and drink holders.
They obviously didn't clean the car.
THEIR EMPLOYEES ARE UNWILLING TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT, AND ARE SIMPLY POWERLESS TO SERVE THEIR CUSTOMERS.
RENT FROM SOMEONE ELSE. THESE GUYS DON'T GET IT!
