| - Six months ago I wrote a pretty detailed review of my favorite shopping and haggling Mecca in the world, and now that I have survived the sweltering Summer months, I can give a bit more insight as, for the first time since I started going to Broadacres, I started to head there on Friday nights instead of Sunday mornings.
It was recommended to me by one of their regular vendors that I am friendly with that I check out the Friday night action at Broadacres. I had always thought that the Friday night selection would be slim at best as far as vendors and that most people that go on Friday night aren't there to shop but are more there for the live entertainment on stage. For the most part, this is actually true, and there are droves of people that pour in after 8PM that are specifically there for the concerts.
I, on the other hand, am really only interested in the shopping for crap I don't need, so when my vendor friend suggested Friday night because it is the first time that the weekly goods will be displayed (and that by the time Sunday rolls around, the wares had already seen two days of shoppers), and that the weather is MUCH more manageable as the Sun has set.
Sure enough, she was right, and though there are significantly fewer vendors on Friday night (mainly due to the lack of the one-weekend Fly by Nighters, the quality of the goods is quite high since it is indeed the first day to display them (most of these vendors spend the week purchasing their goods and then start selling them Friday night).
My one piece of advice would be to get there fairly early on Friday. It starts at 4PM but due to heat and setup, I recommend arriving no later than 6PM. Many vendors do not have electricity in their booths, so the lighting is minimal once the sun sets.
Overall, I absolutely still love Broadacres, and still religiously go every week. I am glad to add Friday night to my weekend repertoire and I cannot recommend it more highly to Swap Meet fans and non-fans alike.
