| - My experience as Takumi was fairly average for a sushi place in the Midwest.
First, I would like to clarify that we did carry out this time, but I happened to be in the restaurant long enough due to a long wait...
The website claims to have online ordering, but when you actually click it, you are prompted to call in. Why would you even have that button?
When I entered the restaurant to pick up my order I thought for a moment that I may have walked in through the back door. There was no host or hostess present. I was standing around for at least five minutes to the point that other groups walked in and were standing around with me. Eventually the hostess showed up, and I told her my order was carry out. She didn't really reply and ended up seating the other groups. I took a seat at the bar, which was fairly messy. The bottles behind the bar were scattered about and there were old meals on the bar that hadn't been picked up.
My order came out about another 5 minutes later, and I headed home.
The meal was well packed. We ordered one spicy salmon roll, one spicy tuna roll, one eel with cucumber roll, one tuna with avocado roll, and a side of miso. The order came packaged with two sets of chopsticks, two packets of soy sauce, and an appropriate amount of ginger and wasabi.
The rolls were pretty average, but they were good enough for carry out this evening. I enjoyed the tuna and avocado roll/eel and cucumber roll. The spicy rolls were not quite the way I like them. The fish was ground up and mixed with the house's spicy sauce. I think spicy rolls are better executed with high quality whole pieces of fish. When the fish is ground, it is somewhat questionable. Also for some reason tiny pieces of crunchy material was mixed into the ground fish. I'm not quite sure why.
The sushi was okay and the service was fairly slow. The sushi house doesn't begin to compare to my favorite Midwest place nor anywhere in the Bay Area. I would probably do carry out here again because it is fairly close to my place. If I wanted to dine in I think Red Sushi on the square is a much better option.
